I finally got my heart rate monitor’s batteries replaced, so this afternoon I tested my heart rate while washing my car.
When I was a kid, it was fun to help Dad wash and wax his cars. We got to have a water fight and he got free labor! It was win win win! But as I have gotten older I have become a fan of car washes, especially Fabulous Freddies! They do a great job for the price. I love their interior and exterior Specials. But today instead of spending $10- $20 to get my car washed, I decided to wash and WAX my car myself, like I did in the “good ole days”.
I washed the interior windows, armoralled and vacuumed the interior. That took 40 minutes. My heart rate got to about 130 and then I started the Exterior. I washed, scrubbed the bugs off, rinsed off, towel tried and then waxed on and waxed off! After I was done waxing, I thought my arms were going to fall off! My heart rate was ranging from 130-150 the whole time. Which was higher than my heart rate was this morning walking on the treadmill on a 10 incline at 3.5 miles per hour. The Exterior wash took over an hour and I probably needed at least 600 Calories of Energy for my exterior wash. With the Interior I think we are looking at close to 1000 Calories of Energy needed for my output!
So this morning, I spent just over an hour in the gym and maybe needed 500 calories. This afternoon I cleaned my car and based on my calculations I needed about 1000 calories in An hour and forty minutes.
So, I could have sat at a carwash eating a candy bar, but instead I got a great workout and a clean car for “free”.
Here are the before and after pics.

When I was in high school part of the deal for my parents buying me a car was that I had to keep it clean. I was also enrolled in an online PE class, ’cause I wanted to use all my school hours on other classes but I needed the PE credit to graduate. Needless to say I washed my car every Saturday. And whoever read over my list of physical activity that I submitted must’ve thought I was a clean freak.
